Just a quickie reminder to turn promptly over from the Antiques Roadshow or whatever you've been watching at 9pm on Sunday because that's when the first episode of Charlie Brooker's new trilogy airs, and it's really rather great...

Made up of three standalone dramas, Black Mirror looks at how technology has shifted our grip on reality and generally made the world a bit #MAD.

The first one, National Anthem, follows a fictional prime minister (played brilliantly by Rory Kinnear) as he's faced with an unusual ransom demand. Since suspense is the key, we don't want to give too much away, but try imagining what would happen if Kate Middleton got kidnapped and only David Cameron having sex with a farm animal on live television would guarantee her release. It's as tense as it is funny, and we're obviously not just saying that because Brooker works in our building and we don't want things to be awkward in the lift.

Talking about the show, he said:

"The idea came to mind when watching Gordon Brown apologise to Gillian Duffy. I thought 'who's in charge here?'

"You're watching the news and following Twitter and it's like the world got out of bed and banged its head and is hallucinating. I've attempted to capture a day like that."

So would David Cameron have sex with a pig for Kate Middleton? Well, he does sleep with a horse every night - boom boom.
